Everything is an adventure

Hi, I am Zeenah, mum of mischievous five year old twin boys.

I never really understood the phrase “Double Trouble” until I had twins.

When I was pregnant with my twins, I kinda knew there would be challenges like sleep routine, dealing with different personalities and what would the terrible 2s x2 be like?  Thankfully we are past that stage already.

Now parents of twins, I know you can relate to this, raising twins is an endurance sport and we're training for the Olympics everyday! Am I right???

Each twins has his own agenda. So when you’re disciplining one, the other makes a run for it or will do exactly what you told his twin not to do. I will touch on discipline in another post.

When it comes to outings, everything is an adventure for them. This post is not only for twin parents, but for any parent with multiple littles kids.

My boys love being out, I love being out, we all love being out.  But with twins it can get so tricky, we discovered that 2 hours in a public place like a mall or restaurant, with the boys are enough.

Sometimes 2 hours is actually pushing it.  They love being out in nature, where they can run, catch insects and have fun.

When it comes to outings, you need to pick the right places, the location for us is of utmost importance. We don’t want to be in busy crowds or close to any traffic.

We love confined parks where they can play, be free and us as parents can relax with a cup of coffee as they entertain themselves.  We love Greenpoint Diversity Park with their spacious grassy areas.

Forest walks is one of the twins favourite places to go and take in nature.

Museums are lovely during the colder days, the boys are always fascintated and there’s enough space to watch the boys from a short distance, our favourite museum is Iziko Museum and Planetarium.

Indoor playgrounds are always a winner, there are so many activities to do as well as socialise with other kids their age.  Our favourite indoor play area is obviously Playstation Rush.

Timing your outings are important too.  On weekends we enjoy leaving home early as the twins are awake early in any case.  It’s such a bonus to arrive when these places just open, we usually have the place to ourselves for a good few minutes.

Snacks. That's all you need to know, snacks can solve any mood or fix any argument, it also calms down busy bodies.

At this stage, I still have not braved taking them out by myself, I always make sure I have another adult with me.  One day we would be able to manage them on my own.  Maybe when they are 6.

Keep an eye out for my next blog post, where I touch on discipline.
