On Saturday, 28 September 2019 I hosted the very 1st Twin Parents CPT event.
I started this exclusive support group a few months after my twins were born and it has grown to more than 200 twin mommies from Cape Town and a handful from other parts of South Africa.
When I found out I was expecting twins, we were so excited. But little did I know about the challenges that lay ahead. This we only discovered when I was discharged from hospital and there were no nurses to assist me with simple things like nappy changes, feeding and sleep syncing.
Studies have shown that parents of twins had more depression, anxiety, sleeping difficulties and social dysfunction than parents of single-born babies
This group assists many twin moms in the transition from pregnancy to birth to childhood and even to adolescence. The parents of this group has twins from new born to full grown adults and it is really a very supportive little community.
We had a lovely time and we all connected instantly. There was delicious food, loads of laughter and story sharing. We envisage to have atleast 4 of these events per year.
The scene was set at Sabrias Restaurant in Wynberg, the food was delicious, staff was friendly and the service was excellent.
Merlene, a representative from Honey introduced the brand, she set up some of their products and had some giveaways for the guests. She recited a beautiful poem which touched our hearts.
Taswell is a representative from Spindel, he performed a demonstration to the mommies showing how to lighten their laundry load. He also offered a special discount price to the ladies who attended the event.
The owner of Heavenly Heads, Samantha, shared some valuable styling tips and advice on self care . She also gave away a R400 voucher to one lucky lady.
I had no idea there were so many twin moms out there experiencing the same challenges that I never expected. It's so valuable to connect with people who are experiencing the same challenges, anxieties and stresses that comes with being a twin parent.
The personalised goodie bags were to die for! The most expensive gift was a pair of Havainnas, a Havainnas beach bag and a Havainnas key ring - organised by a mom of our group during her maternity leave.
